2026 General Election

The Rural Municipality of Thompson is pleased to provide important information regarding the 2026 Municipal Elections.

๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ Election Day โ€” Wednesday, October 28, 2026
Municipal elections are held every four years on the fourth Wednesday in October. Voters in the R.M. of Thompson will elect a Reeve, Councillors and Local Urban District (LUD) of Miami Committee Members on:

๐Ÿ“Œ Registration Period (Reeve & Councillor Candidates)

Reeve Candidates is: May 1, 2026 โ€“ September 22, 2026

Councillor Candidates is: June 30, 2026 โ€“ September 22, 2026

๐Ÿ“Œ Campaign Period (Reeve & Councillor Candidates)

The official campaign period for 

Reeve Candidates is: May 1, 2026 โ€“ March 1, 2027

Councillor Candidates is: June 30, 2026 โ€“ March 1, 2027

During this period, candidates may accept contributions and incur campaign expenses in accordance with provincial legislation provided they have already registered with SEO. This requirement does not apply to local urban district committees.


๐Ÿ“ Nomination Period

The nomination period is expected to open in September 2026.
The exact opening date and nomination deadline will be posted once confirmed by the Senior Election Official.

Candidates must file completed nomination papers with the Municipal Office before the nomination deadline in order to appear on the ballot.


๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ Advance Voting

Advance voting opportunities will be provided prior to Election Day.
Dates, times, and locations will be announced in the official Notice of Election.


โœ”๏ธ Who Can Vote?

To vote in the municipal election, you must:

โ€ข Be at least 18 years of age on Election Day
โ€ข Be a Canadian citizen
โ€ข Be a resident of the R.M. of Thompson or own property within the municipality
โ€ข Be on the voters list (or register at the polling station)


๐Ÿ“ Voting Locations

Polling station locations will be announced closer to Election Day and posted at the Municipal Office and on the RM website.
